Can the ferroelectric soft mode trigger an antiferromagnetic phase transition?

چکیده

Type-II multiferroics, where spin interactions induce a ferroelectric polarization, are interesting for new device functionalities due to large magnetoelectric coupling. We report on type of multiferroicity in the quadruple-perovskite BiMn3Cr4O12, an antiferromagnetic phase is induced by structural change at transition. The displacive nature transition 125 K, with crossover order-disorder mechanism, evidenced polar soft phonon THz range and central mode. Dielectric pyroelectric studies show that critical temperature corresponds previously reported Néel Cr3+ spins. An increase polarization observed below 48 coinciding Mn3+ This attributed enhanced coupling, as no crystal symmetry K detected from infrared Raman spectra.

Quantum phase transition in an antiferromagnetic spinor Bose-Einstein condensate.

We have experimentally observed the dynamics of an antiferromagnetic sodium Bose-Einstein condensate quenched through a quantum phase transition. Using an off-resonant microwave field coupling the F = 1 and F = 2 atomic hyperfine levels, we rapidly switched the quadratic energy shift q from positive to negative values. At q = 0, the system undergoes a transition from a polar to antiferromagneti...

Manifestation of a Ferroelectric Phase Transition

Temperature dependences of the dielectric properties of ultrathin polyvinylidene fluoride films prepared using the Langmuir–Blodgett method were studied by linear and nonlinear dielectric spectroscopy. It is shown that ultrathin Langmuir films of polyvinylidene fluoride exhibit a manifestation of a first-order ferroelectric phase transition, which can be assigned to the interaction between the ...

Can an electric field induce an antiferroelectric phase out of a ferroelectric phase?

It has been widely accepted that electric fields favor the ferroelectric phase with parallel electric dipoles over the antiferroelectric phase. With detailed measurements in polycrystalline ceramics of Pb(0.99)Nb(0.02[(Zr(0.57)Sn(0.43)(1-y)Ti(y)](0.98)O(3), we demonstrate in this Letter that electric fields can induce an antiferroelectric phase out of a ferroelectric phase, i.e., trigger an app...

Antiferromagnetic phase transition in a nonequilibrium lattice of Rydberg atoms

We study a driven-dissipative system of atoms in the presence of laser excitation to a Rydberg state and spontaneous emission. The atoms interact via the blockade effect, whereby an atom in the Rydberg state shifts the Rydberg level of neighboring atoms. We use mean-field theory to study how the Rydberg population varies in space. As the laser frequency changes, there is a continuous transition...
